April and May found me in Ireland; In meetings, doing site inspections and travelling with a great group of Americans and Canadians searching for their roots. We had a great time with lots of laughter, great jokes and some serious research time (and some outtings including Wellies)! We travelled the midlands, the North, the South and we met some great people along the way, like Joan Kavanagh, Wicklow Historian, Dr. Tim Campbell of the St. Patrick's Centre in Downpatrick, Dr. Paddy Fitzgerald at the Centre for Migration Studies in the Ulster American Folk Park, Dr. John Cunnigham, Fermanagh Historian and author, and Harry Hamilton, the ultimate story teller! We thank everyone of them for sharing themselves, their knowledge and for enriching our lives. We were also very honored by having lunch with the Duke of Abercorn at Baronscourt! What a treat! The food was great ... the people were charming ... and Ireland was still just as mystical and wonderful as it ever it was. On this journey, I was able to hold in my hands my ancestors sermons, read his words and feel his frustrations of the times ... in 1679. Incredible ... and food for thought ... Are you writing letters or are you emailing? Where is your written word? Your letters to archive? Your thoughts of the times you live in now? Have you started a book? Are you writing your family history? Are you keeping a journal to pass on to the generations to come? We'll have a new success story and "on the road" page soon, so stay tuned! The Garden Tour with landscape architect and gardener, Jennifer Bartley will be taking place again in June of 2010! Updates will be available soon!Jennifer's first book, Designing the New Kitchen Garden , focuses on how to have and design a kitchen garden that works in today's world. In times past, the estates of Europe had kitchen gardens that would sustain the estate and it's residents. And along those same lines, we planted war gardens or "Victory Gardens" to sustain us and give us morale in times of war and depression. As our world cycles again, we are brought back to the basics. Journey with us to Ireland and explore the great isle, learn how to design your own garden and get hands on experience at such great estates as Glin Castle, hear lectures on horticulture and see some of the private gardens that Ireland calls her very own. It's a magical place in a magical time of new beginnings. This tour is very limited in number, please sign up early here . Our October Genealogy Tour is booking now! We will again have lectures along the way, so to sign up please send us a note, we'd love to see you there! If you want to join us on tour, send your inquiry here.
